Good luck selling this idea to teenaged girls. I am, however, an atypical female who doesn't care about shoes. I learned my lesson and have since traveled with lace-up athletic shoes. Every time I sat down to have lunch or take a break and then stood up, the soles of my feet burned. On my first trip to Europe, age 20, I took some nice, flat sandals I knew enough to stay away from heels (cobblestones!), but the soles were leather.
